PostDoc Scientist: PHASE Project

06.06.2017 - Institute of Geological Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences, Freie Universität Berlin

In the frame of our PHASE research consortium project (Physics and Application of Seismic Emissions), we are looking for a postdoc scientist (full-time job). The position is open firstly till the end of 2018.

PHASE (PHysics and Application of Seismic Emissions) is an independent, non-profit, pure research project at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. Since 2004, an international team of scientists and students has performed research towards a better understanding of the physics of fluid-induced microseismicity and the physical fundamentals for microseismic monitoring. With numerical and theoretical studies and with the help of industry datasets, PHASE researchers have developed the seismicity-based reservoir-characterization approach and methods to assess seismic hazards.

Job description:
• Seismic modeling and inversion in anisotropic media
• Earthquake and microearthquake localization
• Moment tensor inversion
• Support in teaching and project organization

Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Geophysics, Physics or related disciplines
• Experience in processing and modeling of (micro)-seismic waveforms, ray tracing, inversion algorithms, earthquake seismology and reflection seismic methods

Desirable:
• Profound knowledge in programming (preferably C++, Matlab, Python) and experience with machine learning algorithms

Applications quoting the reference code (Seismik 6108-2017) shall be addressed no later than June 19th, 2017
