MSc Student Assistantship: Solidified industrial waste and its applicability in Agriculture

05.07.2017 - University of Guelph (Canada)

An assistantship (2 years) is available for a MSc program at the University of Guelph. The assistantship is available right way with actual degree starting from September 2017. This is an opportunity to work on an industry-university partnered project.

With population growth, the rapid land development has been producing a large volume of liquified materials or often called ‘excess soil’. For example, pipeline developments, residential complex development, metro extension in GTA are some examples. Metaflo Technologies (http://metaflo.ca/) solidify the materials with their proprietary environmentally safe reagents.

This project focuses on potential agricultural applications with MetaFLO solidified materials and reagents. The student will conduct a systematic evaluation through a series laboratory and greenhouse experiments. The study will be conducted with real-world samples from various sources. This industry-university partnered project will provide students an advanced learning experience. The project may involve field work to collect samples. Experience in working with statistical analysis of field and laboratory data will be an asset.

The student will be based at the School of Environmental Sciences (https://www.uoguelph.ca/ses/) at the Ontario Agriculture College (https://www.uoguelph.ca/oac/) at University of Guelph (https://www.uoguelph.ca/), the center of East Canadian Agricultural research.

Please check the university website for application deadlines.

Please contact Prof. Asim Biswas at biswas@uoguelph.ca or Mr. Sam Huang at sam@metaflo.ca for more information or to apply for the position.
