The Topic

For more than 20 years, reducing the nitrogen pollution of water resources while retaining a high level of agricultural productivity has been an issue for European environmental and fertilizer legislation.

Many Member States of the European Union still have difficulties in complying with the quality standards for nitrogen applicable to surface waters, groundwater, and coastal waters, and are required to develop and implement efficient reduction strategies.

Against this backdrop, at the ABC/J Expert Talk, national and international experts will present examples of the current situation with respect to nitrogen pollution in Germany, selected EU Member States, and California.

On this basis, both existing and planned nitrogen management strategies will be presented by the speakers. The focus will be placed on nitrogen reduction measures for agriculture, e.g. for implementing the European Union's Water Framework Directive and Nitrates Directive.

The languages of the conference are German and English (simultaneous interpretation).

Target Groups

The event targets participants from different disciplines with an interest in agriculture, soil, water, and related fields, as well as from different institutions such as ministries, regional and local authorities, water utilities, water boards, chambers of agriculture and agricultural associations, engineering consultants, and scientists.
