W2 Professorship for Urban and Regional Geography

The Department of Geography within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Bonn is a W2 Professorship for Urban and Regional Geography to be filled by 1 October 2026.
Candidates for the position should have a visible profile nationally and internationally as a researcher in the field of Urban and Regional Geography, focusing on contemporary urban and regional development issues in one or more of the following areas:
- Governance and spatial planning
- Disparities and spatial unequal development
- Political ecology and sustainability
- Spatial justice and participation
- Public services and infrastructure
- Mobility and sustainable transport
Candidates should have multiple relevant publications in peer-reviewed international journals demonstrating their academic standing. Experience in successfully acquiring third-party funding is also required. In addition to theoretical and conceptual expertise, the position requires contributions in practical, application-oriented research issues. Competency with innovative methodological approaches is desired.
Candidates should be able to teach across the entire field of Human Geography, including particularly teaching on urban and regional geography in Germany and the region. Teaching is an integral part of the professorship and the delivery of courses in all phases of the degree program in both German and English is required. Very good didactic skills, commitment to teaching and experience with innovative teaching methods are required. An appropriate training period and support will be provided. Active participation in academic self-administration is expected.
The candidate’s research and teaching profile should be aligned with that of the Department. Ability to collaborate within the Department, in the Transdisciplinary Research Areas of theUniversity (particularly TRA 6: Sustainable Futures), with actors in the region (e.g. Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR), Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) and with practical execution partners is of especial importance. Collaboration as a member of interdisciplinary networks on issues of urban and regional geography is expected.
