ABC/J Annual General Meeting 2024

On Friday, 29 November, the annual general meeting of Geoverbund ABC/J took place at RWTH Aachen University, which offered plenty of opportunity for reflection and outlook, but also for personal exchange.

Florian Wellmann, scientific director of Geoverbund ABC/J, presented the most important successes of the third cooperation phase to the participants:

In addition to the expansion of national (DG-RR structural change project) and international cooperation (SAGES - Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment & Society), this also included the establishment of the three ABC/J competence centres CPEX-Lab, HyCo-Geo and IGSC4i alongside the existing competence centre HPSC TerrSys.

The NFDI4Earth Academy training network, which Geoverbund ABC/J is coordinating together with the German geoscience research networks Geo.X and the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM), has also been successfully established. In addition, the ABC/J-Seed Funding joint projects have been successfully initiated (DETECT).

In addition, the Geoverbund ABC/J supports cross-location geoscientific training and cooperative research in the region by continuously organising spring and fall schools, international student excursions and the annual ABC/J Research Award.

The outlook for the 4th cooperation phase (2024 to 2029) focused on the three fields of action ‘Future Questions of Earth System Sciences’, ‘AI Strategy’ and ‘Early Career Scientists’. Various strategic measures were derived from these fields of action and will be implemented in the coming years.
