ABC/J Research Award for Early Career Scientists

This year, for the 14th time, the ABC/J Research Award for Early Career Scientists honoured outstanding doctoral and research work carried out at the member institutes of the Geoverbund ABC/J.

The ABC/J research awards will be presented at the ABC/J Summer Festival at the University of Cologne.

1st place

Dr Tobias Tesch (IBG-3: Agrosphere, Forschungszentrum Jülich)
"Interpretable deep learning for studying the Earth system / Soil-moisture–precipitation coupling across Europe".

2nd place

Dr Lisa Winhausen (RWTH Aachen, Chair of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology)
"A combined laboratory and microstructural investigation of the coupled hydro-mechanical failure behavior of Opalinus Clay".

3rd place

Dr Cristina Val-Peón (RWTH Aachen, Chair of Organic Biogeochemistry in Geo-Systems)
"Palaeoenvironmental evolution of SW Iberia during the Holocene based on palynologycal data"
